It is no hidden secret that high-definition media is the future of video delivery system at homes. HD video download and streaming services will soon be taken over by such media formats. Demand for Blu-Ray hardware is expected to grow rapidly in next few months as Microsoft has chosen perfect time for bringing the technology to their consoles.

Microsoft is expected to introduce a HD DVD add-on for Xbox 360 next year. Blu-Ray hardware is also expected sometime in next year. Other Microsoft platforms like Windows 7 support burning of Blu-Ray format. Microsoft’s action was always a question of ‘when’.

Introduction of Blu-Ray compatibility with Xbox 360 will support 720p quality videos for Microsoft’s console. There are many more reasons for upgrading to Blu-Ray drive from regular hard drives. As games’ size goes on increasing, it will be very difficult to keep games saved on local hard drives forever after downloading them from internet.

Insider resources had previously revealed that Microsoft was planning a Blu-Ray device even before this development for Xbox 360.
